Blackberry & Orange Compote

Compotes are slightly runnier versions of jam, and can be added to many breakfasts and desserts.

Method:

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a large saucepan. Bring to a simmer over a medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
  2. Mash the berries and reduce the heat slightly. Leave to simmer a few more minutes for a firmer consistency.
  3. Remove from the heat, and remove the star anise pieces. Decant into a glass jar.
  4. Store in the fridge. The compote will keep for up to two weeks.
