Fresh Tortillas

These homemade tortillas are made using only a handful of ingredients and taste supremely better than shop-bought ones!

Method:

  1. Combine the plain flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the lard and rub into the flour using your fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add the water and mix the dough by hand until the mixture comes together, adding a little more flour if necessary.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide the dough into 12 equal balls. Roll out each ball into a thin circle using a rolling pin.
  6. Brush a little vegetable oil in a large frying pan on a medium heat. Cook the tortilla on each side until bubbly and golden. Place the cooked tortillas in a container to keep warm as you make the rest of the tortillas.
