Tomato & Basil Sauce

A versatile Italian sauce that can be used for a variety of purposes - for pizza, pastas and stews.

Method:

  1. Finely chop the red onion. Crush the garlic cloves. Set aside.
  2. Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan and add the onion. Soften for 5 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add the garlic and gently fry for 1 minute.
  4. Add the passata, sugar and red wine vinegar to the saucepan. Turn up the heat until the mixture starts to bubble.
  5. Reduce the heat, then simmer the sauce uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Sprinkle in the dried basil and season with salt and pepper.

  • Black Pepper – ½ tsp 
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Dried Basil – 2 tsp
