Sanctuary Kitchen Lunches in April
If you came along to January’s Big Conversation event at Whitworth Art Gallery, you will know what an amazing spread our volunteer chefs put on for over 200 people!
Our team – Helen, Booky, Shamim, Asad, Sabah, Raqia, Levie and Barley – plus Simone and Sally from Manchester City of Sanctuary, supported by 4Lunch, served a delicious spread of homemade falafel wraps, vegetable patties with green chutney, red pepper hummus and flatbreads, soup, sandwiches and chana chaat.
Sanctuary Kitchen
Following on from the success of January’s event, we are excited to share with you our latest food project – Sanctuary Kitchen!
Join us for two special lunches at Longsight Church of the Nazarene, on Tuesday 9th April and Tuesday 23rd April, from 12pm.
Come along and try authentic food, cooked with love by our team from Manchester City of Sanctuary. Our chefs come from all over the world – Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Kuwait, Zimbabwe and the Congo – and are seeking asylum in Manchester.
They are all are fantastic cooks with unique stories to tell, and some have even been professional chefs in their home countries. But due to UK laws, they are prohibited from working here. We think this is a huge waste of talent and skills.
Sanctuary Kitchen is all about providing our volunteer chefs with a platform to showcase their favourite dishes from their home countries and to provide affordable, interesting and nutritious meals to the community.
All the food and drink served at Sanctuary Kitchen is Pay as You Feel (donations). All proceeds will be used for future Sanctuary Kitchens.
Come along to learn about the cuisine of these countries, sample delicious food, hear about the issues facing asylum seekers, and enjoy music and good conversation with good company!
